About Me

Although I now live in Southern California, I have lived the majority of my life living in Third Culture Countries.  I grew up a missionary kid in Zambia, married a Zimbabwean while working there as an adult, and then spent seventeen years moving through Central America and Africa while my husband worked for an international business.
My husband and I have three kids in college and I now spend most of my time volunteering at my church.  Because of the grace and love that God has shown me, my desire is to serve others by extending that same grace and love to them.
Besides God’s love and my parent’s example of serving Christ, nothing has shaped my life more than living in nations where poverty is the norm and life is hard.  I have lived in seven different countries and have left a bit of my heart in each place.  This greatly influences my values and my thoughts, and therefore my blog posts.
I pray, as you read my blog, that you are inspired to draw closer to God and to serve those whom He sends into your life.

  19. Shanda,

I'm so glad I found your blog. Your heart for the poorest of the poor - that's where God's taking me. Breaking my heart. I know that Africa or China is in our future. I don't know if it will be physical presence or the financial support we're doing now. But he placed a seed in me 11 years ago that never goes away.

I love finding women who share the same interests. Although I recently started a blog about simplifying our lives and homeschooling, we share a love of Jesus and family and the poor.

Katie Davis' book undid me. Listening to Heidi Baker of Iris Ministries speak blows me away.

I imagine I could be similarly affected by some of what you post. So I'll keep returning.

    Bless you.
    Love,
    Laura
