Chinese Foot Binding----just plain wrong!
Really??
Do we really even need them?
Maybe more important than what we wear on our feet is where we choose to walk.
Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers. Psalms 1:1-3

ReplyDeleteI have never seen bound feet before...Oh my. Makes you think. Do like your flip-flops though. Thanks, Shanda.
ReplyDeleteIt does make a person think! I really enjoy reading your posts!

Powerful, Shanda! Thanks for today's inspiration. :)
ReplyDeleteLinda
Amen!! What a wonderful piece...yes how we walk, not our shoes.
ReplyDeleteWell said, Shanda! It's so hard to imagine who in their sane mind decided foot binding was a good idea and why in the world anyone listened to them.
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed day!

that ubiquitous sandal....made me ache for my dominican friends. awesome post.
ReplyDeleteNice photo essay. I may riff a bit off this theme on my blog, here in flipfiop land.
ReplyDeleteInteresting post, Shanda. It brought to mind Ephesians 6, the whole armor of God, and especially verse 15 "and as your shoes the readiness to announce the Good News of peace."
ReplyDeleteBlessings!
How strange are those red shoes??? I am stopping by from Wild Weekend Hop, I hope you can follow mine as well. Stop by for the Win A Bundle Weekend!! Oh! My Heartsie Oh! My Heartsie
ReplyDeleteThanks have a great day! Karren
What a variety of sandals! I'm glad I don' t live in China!
ReplyDeleteThese shoes run the gamut of emotions, don't they? From sadness, to horror, to shock, to frustrated bemusement...
ReplyDeleteAmen, so true.
ReplyDeleteNice series of photos! Ouch on those red ones n the foot binding!
ReplyDeleteA great post. I love your photos and your message!
ReplyDeleteThat was powerful!!!!!! sandie
ReplyDeleteThey still do that in China??!! And oh, the African footwear -- gave me a twinge, remembering the things my husband saw pastors and their wives wearing on their feet -- or not (sometimes they tried to hide them, they were so ashamed, but they had nothing else, and oh, how they wanted any shoes someone would cast off and give them, stuff their feet in whether they fit or not. Oo, we are so spoiled...
ReplyDeleteThank you for the shoe show, and one of my favorite psalms.
Very interesting photos. I totally agree with you regarding the foot binding... so very wrong! The first photo is creative but sad. The next to the last one is different and a bit outrageous. The leg ornaments are interesting and colorful. The last photo is my favorite one, I would, and often times do, go without shoes if it were allowed. My feet hurt when I wear shoes much. The first thing I do when I walk through my door is to kick off the shoes, even at work they come off. I walk around in my sock feet or barefoot all day, unless we have clients in the office.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post, glad I visited!
GREAT..!!
ReplyDeleteThe word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path ....when I studied this out the Word was shown to be as our shoes...the Revealed Word...once we had on the Revealed word on our feet then the path before us was lit up that we could see to walk in ways that are pleasing to him....! Excellent post
ReplyDeleteWow your post is really touchy. From SOOC Sunday.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you. Barefeet is my shoe of choice except when it's too cold...lol
ReplyDeleteWoah! Those pink double-heel-platforms are scary! I don't like wearing heels, comfort is more important to me than looking taller. :D
ReplyDeleteWonderful message! My house slippers are my shoes of choice. Although tempting, I don't wear them out of the house!
ReplyDeleteThis...WOW!...powerful! Thank you! Sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteAh, Zimbabwe. My husband and I were married there. It is true, pictures are worth a thousand words. And yes, it is more important where are feet are taking us than what we wear on them.
ReplyDeleteReally interesting! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour post reminds me of the Forrest Gump quote that's to the effect of "You can tell a lot about a person by their shoes." And it reminds me that God uses the meek and poor for great things!
ReplyDeleteWow! What an amazing post. Not only are the pics a touching reminder of other cultures, but a rousing "Amen" to your comment that most important is where we choose to walk.
ReplyDeleteI really like how you creatively narrated these photos into a thought provoking post.!!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right...it is not what we put on our feet that is truly important. Rather, it is where our feet go! Blessings!
ReplyDeleteWalk in the Spirit Walk with the Lord.... in those walks we have no need for shoes!! Hopped from Bless a Blogger
ReplyDeleteyears ago I read a book about a missionary child in the last century whose only clothes were the discards sent from their church in the states. The shoes were always out of style "old lady" shoes and this young girl complained to her mom who said something similar to what you wrote: "It's not what you wear on your feet that matters. It's where your feet take you."
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this post made so very interesting by the great pictures...a picture is worth 1000 words! Gail
Thank you for making me smile; with the pictures and your words. :)
ReplyDeleteGreat pics! Thank you!
ReplyDeletethose pictures tell a story...thank you.
ReplyDeleteThe foot binding disturbs me. Have you read Snow Flower and the Secret Fan? Good book.
ReplyDeleteFollowing on Linky Followers (finally making my way over from the vB event)! :)

ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful blog!! I really enjoyed your photos along with one of my favorite scriptures that you shared! And yes, I agree the foot binding is just plain wrong ... and cruel!! I'm visiting from Katie's site, S&S ... looking forward to visiting again!! Have a blessed week! :)
ReplyDeleteShoes shouldn't make you sad...but the water bottles and the binding. I am counting my blessings!
ReplyDeleteI wrote about foot binding in my blog this week. Funny I should run across it again! Lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteGreat reminder for today...be thankful for what God has blessed us with. Having two children from Africa has opened our eyes to what poverty really is.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Scripture and a Snapshot...
ReplyDeleteThe pop bottle one really got me. We are sooooo blessed, and most of the time don't realize it.
Amazing! Humbling to think we shop for shoes for fashion when others are putting together water bottles to walk on. Thanks for sharing at Oh Snap!shots of the Week.
ReplyDeleteI agree - it's not the shoes we wear, but where we walk.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Joan
